Nordic Walking was originally developed as a
summer training alternative for cross country skiing.
Finish athletes just chopped off some poles a little
shorter and took it into the mountains.
This alternative quickly developed into the fastest
growing fitness activity in Europe.
Now we use specially designed poles which are
extremely comfortable.

Basically the poles enhance walking by engaging
upper body muscles like arms, chest and back in
similar movement like in telemark cross country
skiing.
Because of the poles overall joint impacts are
reduced to a minimum, making this the perfect
workout for anyone with problems in knees, back,
hips, neck or other major joints.

But most important is the amazing effect on the
cardiovascular system. The heart rate is up to  45%
higher then regular walking and same is true for the
caloric expenditure.
Basically it is as efficient as jogging or running
without the heavy impact, huffing and puffing..

How to get started ?
Nordic Walking is a technical sport, just like skiing.
Therefore it is crucial to learn how to do it the right way !
In 30-60 minutes most participants learn the basic
elements. Enough to get most of the benefits.

After learning the basic techniques it becomes more
fun by the day. Learn from Axel how to utilize uphill and
downhill techniques to maximize leg strength,
cardiovascular stamina and of course upper body
strength.

Many of my clients are so enthusiastic that they walk
almost every day. To vary the training we Nordic Walk
on beaches, grassy or dirt trails, steep rocky terrain
and of course on our neighbourhood sidewalks and
roads.

Over time the body becomes more efficient and core
muscles like the lateral abdominals show incredible  
strength gain. ALL THAT with just walking.

The best of all is that nobody races away from each
other. This activity creates intensity by using the poles
not by speed !
Seniors and teens, big people, small people,
beginners as well as advanced walkers and of course
whole families walk with each other creating the strong
bond all of my participants enjoy so much.
